Meditation of the Heart

John 16: 13, “But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.” As the holy spirit speaks/convicts; it becomes a matter of the heart…our own heart. The Holy Spirit lives within us; therefore, he knows us intimately. So, there’s no getting in our business, Jesus has made us the business of the Holy Spirit. He is the “get it right” from within that convicts/corrects us when we are wrong; when our motives need to be checked; when our heart is not right.

As we journey…Help us Lord to see you, to see your will and your way, to stand in obedience, desiring to be pleasing to you. Not just in this thing; but, in all things as we stand to be an effective witness of you, our true living God.

It is for such a time as this, when God is calling me to wait, that I have questions? I am experiencing a strong desire to be in control of a matter of the heart. But God, is calling me to wait. While I wait, I’m being called into patience, obedience and love. I’m called to look at why I’m feeling the overcoming need to take charge, and to do it right now. It is here that the Spirit of God takes me to the mirror. My heart is convicted as I look upon the physical image of frowns and puffed-up forehead; I’m even more drawn to what my spirit is speaking…lack of compassion, of understanding, lack of patience and tolerance. More than anything else…lack of the love of God that does not keep count of wrongs…It is here that I surrender to the Holy Spirit for help.

Matthew 7:1 NIV “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” God is calling me to fairness, to compassion, to patience but more so to love. He is calling me to consider my own circumstance, my journey, my bumps and my bruises. It is here that I’m called to shout “OUCH”. It hurts! As the spirit of God calls me to be “teachable and careful” to not be an agent of harm and judgement but to be a vessel of peace, love and understanding.

Thus the challenge before me…to receive a truth…God is calling me to wait because he needs me to see…I’m in a place of self-seeking to expose another’s wrong for the purpose of judgement instead of seeking God. It is in God that I know that he is able to work in all things, at all times for his glory. He is calling me to make peace and be a deliverer of a spirit of assurance; knowing that in his time things are going to be okay…as I wait on him, and in him. I am being called to surrender my will to him…so that I may rest in his power and authority for I have none of my own…thus my lack of spirit driven emotions. It’s a call into a deeper love and understanding to do unto others as the Lord My God has done unto me.

Here’s the kicker: Matthew 7: 3-5 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.”

God is calling us to a clean and pure heart. It is here that we can exercise love and a sincere will. He is touching where it hurts and teaching his will as we wait. In obedience to the spirit…we are able to see God’s love and compassion that he has lavished so freely on us…thus we are employed to do so to others. That’s love.

Thank you God, as you continue to teach and show yourself mighty. Keep me gentle, kind and humble, Father. Thank you for the Holy Spirit that dwells within that continuously teaches and controls. Thank you God for you are the power and authority of our lives.

Seeing things through the eyes of God rather than our own gives peace and understanding to the soul. God calls us to see others and treat others as he has seen and treated us. Where would we be without the mercy, love and grace of God? Likewise, let us consider the same as we deal with our sister and our brother. Let us not allow their wrongs or misgivings hinder our love walk with the Lord. We are still called to love and practice justly without grievance with others. We are to comfort, show compassion and equity as God has shown us. We are called to God’s perspective. We are to be an effective witness at all times so that the unbeliever or newcomer in Christ will know a better way. It is here that the change comes…in us and in the other person.

Help Holy Spirit as we allow you to define and refine us. Help us so that we may continuously see you. Open our eyes as you cleanse our hearts. Heal our hurt and anger. Remove our insecurities and doubts. Give us courage and assurance. It’s in Jesus name that we pray…Amen!
