Meditation of the Heart

The Lord is calling the believer to not only make a difference (be an external force) in the life of others but to actually be the difference (act as an internal force) so that one who has doubt or unbelief may be free from condemnation. Journey with me…

Matthew 5: 13 says…” You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.”

Just as salt changes the taste of the physical food that we eat so does the word of God change the well-being of our spirit as it is consumed. Too little salt is often unrecognized, too much salt will make you sick, but just the right measure will make for a great meal. One that is pleasing to the taste. Likewise, it is in the spirit. We must allow the holy spirit to work within us and others as we receive what thus says the Lord. We are called to season, to enhance the life of another. We are called to sprinkle the word of God in the most appropriate measure that it may be received, chewed upon and then digested to produce effective pleasing works. It will serve to make a healthy difference in our personal relationship with God as well as in the relationship of our sister and our brother with God.

Matthew 5: 14 & 15 says…” You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.”

We are the called to be a witness, to be the example of light, of joy, of peace, of faithfulness in this world that has been covered with darkness…with hate, with malice, with injustice and confusion, with immorality. We must know that only those things that we do for God will last. We must stand firm before a dying world and proclaim the word of God. We must boldly share the good news of Jesus Christ, that he lives and that he loves us.

Let us know…that by being the salt of the earth and the light in darkness…we are agents of change, vessels of hope and channels of faith. We become witnesses who are called to make a difference, to go the extra mile. We are not to settle with just enough…with that which is typical but to stretch beyond what is ordinary.

Matthew 5:46-48 says….” If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

We serve an extraordinary true living God; therefore, we are so called…to be extraordinary as he. We are called to not love and work according to our ability but to the sovereign everlasting power of God. We are called to his will and not our own. It is here that we are made perfect as our Father in heaven is perfect.

It is here where salt can be tasted and light can be seen…where we become effective witnesses of the power and the goodness of God…where lives will be saved in the name of Jesus…Amen.
